Nervous Patients
We Understand that you are Nervous
You have no idea how many people are nervous or anxious about visits to the dentist. We understand that nervous patients come in all guises. Some get to the front door and can't come through it, some bottle out just before the appointment. Some manage to get to the appointment and can't sit in the dental chair. Mike has honestly seen it all over the past 27 years since he qualified. It is natural to feel apprehensive about visits to the dentist, Mike himself feels like this when he has to go to his dentist so he really does understand how you feel.
Sometimes these feelings are due to a previous bad experience, often as a child. It may be due to embarrassment if the teeth have been neglected. Whatever the reason you are nervous or anxious, we really do understand. You have no idea how satisfying it is to have the most nervous of patients complete a course of treatment. It really does build the strongest patient/dentist relationship. You learn to trust us and that is the key to helping you overcome your fear.
Mrs LC, whose fear of the dentist stretched back 50 years says, " I only booked an appointment in sheer desperation after suffering from severe toothache. I was overwhelmed by the kindness and patience of all the staff, they looked after me like I was one of the family"
Building Trust
This starts from the very first telephone call to us. We know this is a huge step for you to make, ring Julie or Helen right now on 01282 415104, just for a chat. If you don't do it now you will only put it off again! Tell us how you feel and what scares you, we promise to listen. The next step for you might be an informal visit with a senior Member of our Team, not a dentist in sight, if that's how you prefer it.
After this, maybe meeting the dentist prior to your examination in a comfortable lounge rather than having to meet him actually in the surgery itself.
Once you come for your appointment you will meet your Care Nurse, Dawn or Jenny. They will be with you at each appointment. They will hold your hand, literally if that's what you want them to do. Your care nurse is available to answer any questions and is the vital "go between" for you between you and the dentist. She will even ring you up the day after your appointment to see if you are OK or if you have any questions.
It would be a pleasure to help you overcome your fear of the dentist, pick up the phone now and call 01282 415104
What we can do to help you
We know from experience that everyone is different. The more you tell us about you, the more quickly we learn to understand what you like or don't like. For example: Some people feel knowledge is empowering, it helps them feel in control, they want to know just what is happening and why. Others do not want to know at all, they just want Mike to get it over with as soon as possile without explanation.
Bring your iPod or your favourite DVD to watch during your appointment.
